Apple has officially announced the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, which are updated versions of last year’s iPhone 7 and 7 Plus models, with faster processors, a True Tone screen and improved cameras.
The leap from iPhone 7 to iPhone 8 is quite significant, marking for the first time since the launch of the iPhone 3GS in 2009 that an iPhone model has not received an improved version “S”. Although Apple is growing in numbers, the new models of the iPhone 8 want to retain the same design that the company has been using since 2014 with the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.
One of the biggest changes comes in the form of a glass holder to allow for one of the biggest internal changes: inductive wireless charging that would not work through the model’s aluminum case. Precedence. And like the iPhone 7, there is still no 3.5-mm headphone jack.
iPhone 8 and 8 Plus Wireless charging:
Wireless charging seems to be comparable to implementations in virtually every other smartphone. Simply place the phone on a charging cradle and it will charge (with the additional benefit for iPhone users that wireless charging leaves the free lighting port for wired headsets). Apple will use the widely used Qi charging standard, which is good news for anyone who has already purchased wireless chargers. Apple has improved the screen in line with the iPhone 8 by adding the same True Tone technology offered in the 10.5-inch iPad Pro. to automatically adjust the screen to the ambient light in the room to get more accurate colors.
Internally, Apple has updated the processor of the Fusion A10, which belongs in the 7 Series A11 Bionic. It’s a six-core chip with two performance cores 25% faster than the A10, and four performance cores that are, according to the company, 70% faster than its predecessor. There’s also a new Apple-designed GPU that’s 30% faster, with the same performance as the A10 at half power.
On the front of the camera is a new 12-megapixel sensor on the iPhone 8, which is larger, faster and equipped with optical image stabilization. The iPhone 8 Plus also has new sensors and now offers aperture 1: 1.8 and 1: 2.8. The 8 Plus’s dual cameras also have a new “Portrait Lighting” feature to customize the portrait lighting. And Apple says improvements are also in the video, with Apple boss Phil Schiller claiming that the new devices have the “highest quality video capture on a smartphone” with support for 4K video / 60fps. Slow Motion Video now supports up to 1080p resolution at 240 fps, doubling the 120fps option on the iPhone 7. Apple is the first smartphone to bring reality to iPhone 8, with a new gyroscope and AR Accelerometer for better motion tracking.
iPhone 8 price:
The iPhone 8 starts at $ 699 for a 64GB model, while the 8 Plus starts at $ 799 for 64GB of storage. Both models will also have larger models of 256 GB, for unannounced prices. Both phones can be pre-ordered from Friday, September 15th. One week later, on the 22nd of September, the release date will be published.
